All over the world today, the genius of one extraordinary man will be felt by countless millions. Tunes will be played, apps will be downloaded, and human lives will be enriched. That man is Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, who passed away yesterday at the young age of 56.

It's almost impossible to measure his impact. My favorite Jobs story is that, after dropping out of college and studying calligraphy in community college, he insisted that his programmers use an array of "fonts" on the new Apple computer. They were outraged. Thanks to Steve Jobs' obstinacy, I now have a choice of writing this tribute in 'Times New Roman' or 'Copperplate Gothic Bold' (along with dozens of other options).

Jobs' influence was not just on technology, but really on world culture—perhaps more than anyone else in the last 50 years. A lot of what we do in our daily lives is in some way linked to an idea that arose in the mind of Steve Jobs.

Most of all, he brought beauty, simplicity and intuitiveness to cold technology. That may be his greatest legacy.

Forget about Global Warming! How about a natural disaster that has real consequences on planet Earth?

According to Space.COM, the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked the South American nation of Chile actually resulted in shortened Earth days and moved the planet's "figure axis" off kilter. And, in a more immediate and important sense, the quake killed over 700 people.

Hey, Al, why don't you pay attention to something that science can actually quantify and affects actual humans not polar bears!

Finally, former Vice President Al Gore, has emerged from his seeming isolation and spoken out on the Global Warming Hoax. Some mistakes were made, he says, but we still need to tax western capitalism into oblivion. Oh, my.

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) is calling on the Obama Administration to investigate the ClimateGate issue. From the minority committee report:

"[The] Minority Staff of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works believe the scientists involved may have violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, federal laws. In addition to these findings, we believe the emails and accompanying documents seriously compromise the IPCC -backed “consensus” and its central conclusion that anthropogenic emissions are inexorably leading to environmental catastrophes."

The Senator has also asked that former Vice President Al Gore re-appear before the committee to explain some of the assertions in his now famous film, "An Inconvenient Truth".
